Sao Paulo, March 12, 2010 – Companhia de Transmissão de Energia Elétrica Paulista (CTEEP), the main private company in the Brazilian electric power transmission industry, reports a net profit of R$ 828 million in 2009, virtually stable when compared with the previous year (R$ 827,1 million). The gross operational revenue achieved R$ 1,904 billion in 2009, a 5.7% growth in relation to the result achieved in 2008, of R$ 1,802 billion. The net revenue was of R$ 1,649 billion, a sum 5.4% higher than the one achieved in the same period the previous year (R$ 1,564 billion). The company ended 2009 with EBTIDA margin of 82.5%, totaling R$ 1,361 billion.
The operational performance was one of the year's strengths. Even facing successive records in electric power consumption registered by Sistema Interligado Nacional (National Interconnected System - SIN), the company maintained a superior performance in relation to the key analysis indicators used by the industry: the index of power not supplied was of 0.94x10-5 and the availability of assets (transmission lines, reactors and transformers), above 99.91%. In July 2009, Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (National Electric Power Agency - ANEEL) granted a bonus to CTEEP in the sum of R$ 2.8 million thanks to the low variable share rate, which measures the unavailability of equipment (0.13% from CTEEP against 0.53% of the industry average).
On December 2009, CTEEP ended the process of its 1st Issuance of Debentures. 54,860 simple, unsecured debentures, not convertible into shares, were subscribed and integrated, in two series, all nominal and book-entries, with nominal value of R$ 10,000.00, totaling R$ 548.6 million. The resources will be used for contributions to subsidiaries and investments in expansion and reinforcements in the Company assets.
In 2009, approximately 197,800 deals were conducted wit the company's preferential shares at Bovespa, which represents an increase of 22,9% in relation to the year of 2008, involving a financial volume negotiated of R$ 2.486 billion. Common (TRPL3) and preferential (TRPL4) shares had a valuation of 19.76% and 23.21%, respectively, which proves the good performance of the company's shares in a year when the Ibovespa index presented valuation of 82.66% - a market movement in response to the recovery from the 2008 crisis. In this period, the Índice de Energia Elétrica (Electric Power Index - IEE) evolved 59.09%.
Expansion of the transmission system
In 2009, the total investment from CTEEP in its existing assets, corporate, personnel capitalization and contributions to subsidiaries was of R$ 557,3 million. The companies in which CTEEP has shareholding interests and were constituted after awards from bids conducted since 2007 are: Interligação Elétrica Minas Gerais (IEMG), Interligação Elétrica Norte e Nordeste (IENNE), Interligação Elétrica Pinheiros (IE Pinheiros), Interligação Elétrica Sul (IE Sul), Interligação Elétrica Madeira (IE Madeira), and Serra do Japi.
In addition to investments made on existing assets, CTEEP targets its operation towards the acquisition of batches of new transmission lines auctioned by ANEEL, as a way to increase its revenue and presence in the Brazilian market. In line with this position, on January 2009, CTEEP purchased four batches on the bid 001/2009 promoted by the agency.
To ensure higher system reliability, assure the quality of the services provide and, thus, consolidate its position as a relevant company in the Brazilian electric power industry, CTEEP permanently invests on the increase of its capacity for transformation, construction, reconfiguration and requalification of transmission lines and other reinforcements. In 2009, 492 km of transmission lines (807.0 km of circuits) were re-qualified and an additional 243.75 MVA of transformation capacity installed in the CTEEP system was registered, reaching the mark of 12,271 km of lines (18,698 km of circuits) and 43,223 MVA.
In 2009, through the Authorization Resolutions edited by ANEEL or Contracts for Connection to Transmission System (CCT) signed with free customers, CTEEP powered 54 endeavors, 14 of them on the Basic Network (voltage equal to or above 230 kV) and 40 on DITs (Other Transmission Facilities with voltages below 230 kV). Such endeavors corresponded to investments of R$ 214.4 million, disbursed over the past three years.
For 2010, the Multiannual Investment Plan 2010-2012 is approved, with forecast of over R$ 1,9 billion in this period. This year, the company expects to apply R$ 793,8 million, considering capacity expansion projects, construction of new lines, and installation of equipment from authorizations by ANEEL, that is, the service to the basic network and DITs, such as reinforcements, expansions and system maintenance, as well as new connections and contributions to subsidiaries.
